There is an orchidarium under the department for conserving endangered wild species of orchids from Western Ghats

There is a collection of seed samples of different varieties of crops, a germplasm of bhindi collected from Northern Kerala and a germplasm of Nimphea maintained under the department

The Coconut Mission under Kerala Agricultural University, headed by Associate Director of Research (a Plant Breeder),  is functioning in association with the department, wherein the scientists of the department carry out large scale hybridisation programmes in farmer’s fields producing more than 60,000 hybrid seedlings per year. The programme gives a practical exposure to the students in hybridisation of coconut. 

Also the neera unit under Coconut Mission is a demonstration unit for the students in commercialisation of value addition of coconut inflorescence sap
